Winter Drive

A winter afternoon on the Sourland Mountain. Actually this is my own driveway looking out towards the street.

Beginning last week and continuing through the next few months, I'm showing my work at The Ferry House, one of the finest restaurants in the heart of downtown Princeton, NJ.

I'll have 15 to 20 paintings up and although I've never painted in the town itself, I'm showing some paintings that are done very nearby. Here are a few of them:

The Ferry House can get pretty busy, so reservations are recommended. Owner and chef Bobby Trigg is doing pretty well for himself and will be opening 2 additional restaurants in the area soon. If you've never been to The Ferry House, it's worth a visit.

October on the Raritan

A scene along the South Branch of the Raritan River, just below Neshanic Station, NJ.

For folks not familiar with this area, Hunterdon County is the region in central New Jersey where I paint most often. The first week of each month, the Hunterdon County Democrat newspaper contains an issue of Hunterdon Life magazine, and the March issue of Hunterdon Life contains an article about me.

Be warned that there is full page picture of me, and I usually don't walk around with a handful of paintbrushes - that was the photographer's idea. All kidding aside, I think the photographer, Ben Scheetz, did a really nice job and I can't thank the reporter, Lillie Dorchak, enough for writing such a great article:

The images reproduced on that website are too intense in color saturation, but the images in the magazine and the photos above are pretty close to what the paintings look like in real life.

Last year, the Delaware River Mill Society held an invitational art exhibition for artists who had previously won awards in the annual "Images of the Mills" series of juried shows. Well they're doing it again, and as a past award winner myself, I'm happy to have been invited back to participate in this 2nd annual "Artists of the Mills" invitational.

I'll have 3 paintings in this show, including the one shown above which is a scene looking down the Delaware River towards Stockton from just below the spillway at Prallsville Mills.

Prallsville, Beginning of Summer

The mill is located on Rt 29 in Stockton, NJ, just at the northern edge of town.

A portion of the sales will go to benefit the Delaware River Mill Society, who is responsible for the restoration an maintenance of the historic Prallsville Mills complex.

Tickets for this event are $10 at the door and there is free Cajun dance instruction from 8-8:30 pm. RSVP's are appreciated, call 609-397-3586.

Each issue of Garden State Town & Country magazine features an artist in their Gallery section. In the Winter 2007/08 issue of the magazine, that artist is me. It's a really nice 4 page article by arts reporter Cathie Viksjo, who I can't thank enough for writing this.

Amwell Valley Winter, the painting featured in the article, is currently hanging in my solo show at the Triumph Brewery in New Hope, Pa, which is running until Dec 17.

I'll have about 35 paintings in this show making it my biggest single show to date. This show was arranged and organized by New Hope Arts, Inc to compliment their Works On Wood sculpture show just across the street at The Center.

The Triumph is a brew pub which always offers 7 unique beers including some seasonals - the pumpkin ale on tap right now is very good. I'm also fond of their ESB. The food is always good too.

Parking in New Hope can be tough but it's not a problem at Union Square - there is plenty of off-street parking and $1 will buy you 2 hours of parking (so bring some singles or a bunch of quarters).

The Triumph's normal hours are: Mon-Wed 11:30am - 1:00am, Thu-Sat 11:30am - 2:00am, Sun 12 noon - midnight.
