Artists' Gallery's new location at 18 Bridge Street

Just a little reminder that the opening reception for my 2-man show with Mike Schweigart, "Local Color", is this Saturday evening, March 13 from 5pm - 8pm at Artists' Gallery's new location at 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ. 

This opening is also the Grand Reopening Reception for Artists' Gallery at it's new location.  We moved here just last week, and that's a pretty significant event for the gallery well worth celebrating!

Here is a bit of my half of the 2-man show:

Weather reports for tomorrow sound pretty dismal, but at least it's not snow and the river is not predicted to flood.  If bad weather does keep you away, please come and see the show when the weather clears.  Gallery hours are still Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11am - 6pm, but we may be open additional days so if you're driving by, stop in and see if we're open.  Or, get in touch with me and we can make arrangements to open the gallery another time.

During the month of March, I'm having a 2-man show with Michael Schweigart at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ. Mike and I are both landscape painters and we both paint the local countryside, but we each have very different approaches to painting. Mike's work is highly detailed and exquisitely rendered, as you can see in his painting above. In comparison, my work is much looser, and lately I've been putting more emphasis on the character of the paint than on the detail of the subject. In this exhibition, my work also shows a greater emphasis on atmospheric effects and cloudscapes than I have shown in the past.

Another very important piece of news is that Artists' Gallery has moved to 18 Bridge Street, right in the heart of Lambertville. The gallery is celebrating it's 15 year anniversary this year so that makes the move even more exciting. Most artist cooperatives only survive a few years, but Artists' Gallery is still going strong and in spite of the tough economy, we're movin' on up. It's a much better location, we have more display area and it's a beautifully finished space inside. We've all been working very hard to make this move happen in a short period of time and "Local Color" will be the gallery's first show at it's new location. The opening reception for "Local Color" will also serve as the Grand Reopening Reception for the gallery so it should be a blast. I hope you can join us.

The show runs March 5 through April 4, 2010.

If you're anxious to see our new space or if you can't make the reception on the 13th, please join us on Sunday, March 7 from 2-5pm for a smaller, informal reception. To be honest, we may be a little rough around the edges since March 5 is our first day of business on Bridge Street, and this reception is sort of a dry run at doing receptions in the new space. So forgive us if everything is not perfect, if we only have a temporary sign in the front window, or if we forget where we packed the napkins, but it should be a good reception anyway so please join us if you can!

This is the 30th year that Coryell Gallery has been running its annual juried art exhibition along with the Lambertville Historical Society. As the name of the show suggests, the subject of all artwork in the show must be of Lambertville or the surrounding area. The painting I'll have in the show is a garden I painted at on one of the annual Hidden Gardens of Lambertville tours.

A group show to benefit Washington Crossing State Park where George Washington and his troops will be standing guard at the opening - how cool is that!? (That would be the group which reenacts the famous Washington Crossing the Delaware every Christmas.) A portion of the sales made during this show will be donated to the Friends of Washington Crossing to be used exclusively for the Park. I'll have 3 paintings in this show.

Artsbridge is the Lambertville / New Hope area arts organization, dedicated to improving the public understanding of the arts in all the creative disciplines, and this is the annual show of it's members work. My painting in this show is a farm lane off of Hollow Rd, Montgomery Twp, NJ.

Just a quick mention that I'm having a 2-man show with Michael Schweigart at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville in March, and this will be the gallery's first show at it's new location at 18 Bridge Street. After 15 years at it's current location on Coryell Street, the gallery is moving right into the heart of town, and everyone at the gallery is pretty excited about that. I'll talk more about this in my next newsletter.

As part of their 20th Anniversary celebration, the D&R Greenway Land Trust has organized an exhibition entitled "Present In Nature" featuring the work of 18 artists who paint outdoors on location, and I am proud to be counted as one of them. All of the work I have in this show was painted this past summer on land preserved by the D&R Greenway Land Trust.

The show runs Sept 14 - Oct 30, 2009.

The Marie L. Matthews Gallery is open Monday - Friday, 10am - 4pm, but it's best to call the Greenway at 609-924-4646 first to confirm that the facility is not being used for other purposes.

Detour! Please note that a bridge is being replaced on Rosedale Road and you cannot reach the gallery by driving east on Rosedale from Carter Rd. You must take Rosedale west from Elm Road / Great Road.
